And.. I survived.
One thing to note though, people here are workaholics. If you go back before 8pm, you are the odd one out. Work here is pretty much the same, only I have to learn a few bits here and there. We are quite lucky you know (as in us Malaysians in the office). I have a Philippino, Indonesian and Australian colleague. While us Malaysians get to keep our grade (as in our existing positions from Malaysia), the rest got downgraded.
You cant hardly call it bias simply because the rest of the colleagues' home country tax system (yes I am a tax agent) is different from Singapore. Malaysia and Singapore is fairly the same basic concept. Yes. So I chose to feel special. It's the only thing I have learnt to be by staying in a foreign country (Singapore can hardly qualify, but if you think of it, I've never left the country for purposes like this except holidaying). Is to feel positive in every step I choose to take.
Yes. My current house is a shithole. My housemates are bastards. But look at it this way, at least we have something to laugh (or at least me.. at Mr Grumpy)about whenever we come back home from a stressed evening at work. Take for instance, one day Mr Grumpy was taking his piss in the toilet. He didnt say anything unusual. Then after that it was my turn to go to the toilet (7 pple share the same toilet.. you can imagine). I saw period stains. Freaked. Told Mr Grumpy. Mr Grumpy said "THAT WAS PERIOD STAINS? I though WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT!! EEEEEEYYYYYYEEEEEEEEER!!!" It was pretty funny to see Mr Grumpy's reaction when I mentioned that thingy was period stains.. hehe..
There was another time where one fine morning, we were watching tv, this girl came out of her room, and cooked. We were like thinking.. heck, the kitchen is so dirty, how does she cook? Furthermore before she went to the kitchen, there were unwashed pan on the stove. Did she use that? OMG! It was like wake up > cook > eat. Not wake up > wash > cook > wash > eat > wash. I told Mr Grumpy and he screwed up his face .. and made horrified look face. Ugh.
As for working life, the staff here are pretty scared of the senior staff. One came to me after amending my review points and said "Sorry for all the mistakes I made"
WHAT?
Back home I was told NEVER to say sorry for the mistakes I've done, especially when I'm new. Just learn from it. I kept saying "Its ok. Its OK"
Bah.. I have lots more to learn about the Singapore culture. I usually mix with the internationals, because they are much more friendlier..
..to be continued
